The Foundation Year Programme (FYP) is a targeted health-sector academic intervention funded by the Jigawa State Government under the administration of Governor Mallam Umar A. Namadi. Executed by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Students' Matters via the Danmodi Students' Care Initiative, its primary mission is to sponsor and fast-track rural female science graduates into nursing careers.
Maternal & Neonatal Mortality Reduction
Targeting rural communities experiencing acute shortages of formal healthcare workers, particularly female midwives and nurses.
Rural Health Manpower Retainment
Selecting students who are native indigenes of underserved local government areas, ensuring graduates return to serve local community clinics.
Gender-Focused Higher Education
Lowering financial and structural barriers keeping bright, young rural women from entering competitive medical sciences fields.
Community Mapping & Advocacy
Field officers from the Danmodi Students' Care Initiative tour all 27 LGAs to raise awareness at the grassroots level and identify high-potential candidates who meet the baseline criteria.
Technical Review & Board Alignment
Leadership, led by Amb. Muhammad Salisu Seeker, reviews previous cycles alongside state healthcare leaders — the Technical Adviser on Health, the Governing Board Chairman of state nursing institutions, and the Provosts and Directors of key nursing colleges including Birnin Kudu, Babura and Hadejia.
Regional Field Screening Tests
Decentralized screening examinations across local secretariats and designated public secondary schools — including Kaugama, Ringim, Taura and Garki venues — verifying basic competencies in the sciences.
Full Tuition Sponsorship & Placement
Successful finalists receive state-backed enrollment into Jigawa's nursing colleges, with the state covering instructional fees, clinical uniforms and academic materials.
Academic Proof
Senior Secondary School WAEC/NECO statement of results indicating a pure Science track.
Credit Breakdowns
Between 5 and 9 core credits — English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics — cleared in a maximum of two examination sittings.
Identity Anchors
A valid National Identification Number (NIN) slip alongside two recent passport photographs.
Residency Proof
A formal Local Government Indigene Certificate or verified endorsement letter confirming native status within that LGA.
